It's week nine and in the Student Blogging Challenge the topic is animals! I'm going to talk about the different types of animals.
Mammals
Mammals are a class of animals that give birth to their babies, have fur, are warm blooded and are vertebrates, (that means they have a backbone or spine). Did you know that there are 4,000 different kinds of mammals? The largest one is the Blue Whale which weighs 150 ton and is 100 metres long, the smallest is the hog nosed bat which weighs 0.5 ounces.
Birds
Birds are animals that have feathers and hatch from an egg. Feathers are a big part of a bird's life, they keep them warm, let them fly and in the air it is the feathers that help a bird steer! All birds have a beak and feathers. Birds live world wide, you can see them anywhere and they can range from 5cm to 2.75m! Birds were here about 100 million years ago they have been around for a long time!
Insects
Insects normally have three pairs of legs, a body divided into three parts (head, thorax, and abdomen), one pair of antennae and, usually, wings. Many insects look different when they are young, for example a caterpillar make a chrysalis and when it comes out it looks completely different.
There are many more classes of animals in the animal kingdom, I just listed three most common ones. There are also Fish, Reptiles, Amphibians and Arthropods. If you want to find out more information visit these two sites... Kid Zone and About Animals
