My base was made out of thick cardboard then covered in black paper. Then I made models showing what happens at each stage, along with the models I had a paragraph of my explanation. Then I glued a title on and drawn stars on the background. I can't wait for showcase! Below is a picture of my finished presentation...
Here is my finished explanation.
How Are Solar Systems Formed?
Have you ever wondered how the planet you are living on was formed? For centuries astronomers and philosophers wondered how our solar system and the planets came to be. As telescopes and technology have advanced, we have learned more and more about our solar system which gives as a theory to how it might have taken shape.
Stars and planets form out of a collapsing cloud of dust and gas. Gravity pulls material in the cloud closer together, therefore making it hotter and more dense. Motions in the cloud cause it to churn. It gets exceedingly compressed and begins to take a rotating style. This is a kernel of a new solar system.
The rotating cloud flattens to a disc shape. The proper name for this is called circumstellar. Then the material starts to orbit the centre. The material begins to stick to each other. As the disc spins it gets thinner and thinner. The bigger the material comes the more dust it attracts.
The material starts to form a circle shape. With gas and ice on the outer sides, this is called planetesimal. As they gain more material they evolve into giants of gas. The material starts to grow to boulder size and sweeps up any excess particles. They keep growing over hundreds of thousands of years.
Finally it starts to form a proper solar system shape, with debris beginning to thin. Some planets are so close to hitting each other that gravity merges them together. Now it has a relatively clear lane around the sun. Over millions of years more planets merge creating fewer planets overall.
That is how solar systems are created. This forming takes approximately 500 million years. Can you believe that the first thing that created our solar system was only dust and gas?
